Air Quality Alert and Increasing Humidity in Twin Cities; Storms Expected Tonight
US · Published Jun 8, 2026
The Twin Cities and much of Minnesota are under an air quality alert for sensitive groups until 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 7,
The day began with clear skies and high pressure, but conditions are expected to change as humidity increases and temperatures rise to the upper 80s °F (31 °C). Storms are anticipated to develop in southern Minnesota later in the evening and move northward. Flash flooding is the primary concern with these storms. The weather pattern will remain active into the week, with additional storm chances and fluctuating temperatures.

Why It's Important?

The air quality alert poses a risk to sensitive groups, including individuals with respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly. Flash flooding from evening storms could lead to localized water accumulation, particularly in low-lying areas. The increasing heat and humidity may also cause discomfort, with heat indices reaching the mid-80s °F (29-30 °C) on Monday and mid-90s °F (35 °C) on Tuesday. Severe weather potential exists for Wednesday evening as a front moves through the region.
